Olympic silver medalist Alexandre Despatie has been named to Canada's diving team for the 2008 Beijing Games after satisfying a panel of judges that his broken foot is sufficiently healed.
Montreal's Arturo Miranda, Despatie's teammate in the three meters synchro, was also put on the Canadian team.
Despatie was given medical exemptions to skip the diving trials last month in Victoria, but was conditionally named to the Olympic team.
Despatie and Miranda performed in front of an international panel of judges at the Speedo junior national championships in Thunder Bay, Ontario Thursday.
"According to Diving Canada's international judges, Alexandre Despatie and Arturo Miranda have successfully demonstrated they are fit and ready to represent Canada at the Olympic Games this summer," said Mitch Geller, chief technical officer of Diving Canada.
"We are therefore very pleased to confirm their nomination to the 2008 Olympic team. With their selection officially confirmed, the divers can now focus solely on Olympic podium finishes in Beijing."
Despatie broke his foot in April. He won a silver medal in the three meters springboard at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
He won a pair of gold medals at the 2005 world championships in Montreal and two silver medals at the 2007 worlds in Melbourne.
Despatie will compete in the three meters springboard in Beijing and will team up with Miranda in the three meters synchronized.
