As doctors gave the green light to Chonnapas Premwaew to go to the Beijing Olympics, the taekwondo athlete in the 57kg category breathed a huge sign of relief and showed her delight.
According to Wednesday's Daily Xpress newspaper, the doctors said Chonnapas' injury was not as serious as feared and she could continue her dream in the stage of the Beijing Olympics.
Chonnapas, one of the three Thai fighters fielded at the Games, underwent a medical check-up at the Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok after joint pain forced her to miss training in the past week, raising concerns that she might be unable to compete.
"She can do light training, focusing on body strengthening," her doctor said. "It's not a serious injury. The pain she felt was from an inflamed muscle. That should not be a problem.
"Now, there is nothing to be concerned. I believe her morale will be a significant factor in determining if she will have a successful campaign."
Chonnapas said she felt better after treatment.
"The doctor gave me a lot of encouragement. I will follow his advice during the preparation," she said.
"There is no problem with coach Choi Yeoung-suek, too, as he understands the situation and tried to help me in arranging the light training program.
"All I have to do now is to stay in proper physical shape and get ready for the challenge," Chonnapas was quoted as saying.
