China's South Korean coach Kim Sang Ryul said on Tuesday the Chinese men's hockey team had already made history by making it to the Olympic Games.
China will make its men's hockey Olympic debut both as a host and qualifier, Kim noted.
The team booked an Olympic ticket after picking up a silver medal at the Asian Games in 2006. Even without that ticket, it would appear in the Games as a host.
Facing higher ranked and stronger team, the head coach said he felt no pressure.
Ranked 17th in the world, China will take on powerhouses like world No. 2 Germany and No. 4 Spain in the preliminary stage.
Kim has set his sight on a top-eight finish.
"We are not a weak team," Kim said. "I don't think other teams can beat us easily. Every game will be tough and exciting."
The South Korean has begun coaching the Chinese team since 1995. He said his players were of world class, skillful, speedy and talented.
"Our problem is a lack of experience," he added.
Kim predicted his charges to be a stronger team after the Beijing Games.
"I am sure that they will rewrite history after the Olympics," said Kim.
