Ukrainian fencers said on Wednesday they see China as their top rival to win the women's saber team gold medal at the coming Olympic Games.
Ukrainian sabre team had its first training session at the Fencing Hall of the National Convention Centre.
Currently, Ukraine placed 5th in the FIE's world ranking, after the United States, France, China and Russia.
"Of course we want to win medals. We are the best team, but it will probably be a challenge with China, Russia and the US team," said Halyna Pundyk after the training session.
Her teammate Olena Khomrova echoed her opinion.
"This is my first time participating in the Olympic Games. I think our team is strong and I hope we can win," said the young fencer.
Members of the Ukrainian team still have time difference problem.
"Now it's 12 o'clock in Beijing, but it's five o'clock in Ukraine. I am a little sleepy but I have to keep fencing. I hope it will help me," said Pundyk who promised to train "every day".
"We will do more training before the Games begin, but after that we will have more relaxation," added Khomrova.
The Fencing Hall officially opened its gates on Sunday for training sessions.
