The Swedish sailing team hoped to show their best in Beijing Olympics when they went to the Olympic Village on Saturday, coach Thomas Rahm said.
Rahm said that they will have eight men sailors and three women to compete in the Olympics. Six sailers are on their first time trip to the Olympiad, while veteran Fredrik Loof is looking for his first gold after seizing two bronze medals in 1992 and 2000.
"All of our players have chances to win," said Rahm. "But if you want to get a good result, you will need luck as well as your skills. I think the most important thing for them are to show their best performance."
Laser Radial sailor Karin Soderstrom, 23, will enjoy her first Olympic Games. "I feel excited because it is my first time. But I won't feel nervous because I have been training for five times in Qingdao. The weather and the light wind there was quite comfortable for me to create a good result."
The team will leave for Qingdao tomorrow by air.
"I will spend time traveling in Beijing after the games," said Karl Torlen, who will compete in the 49er event. "It will be difficult for me to get a medal. But I think the most important thing is to catch my top. Whether I can get one medal or not all depends on other competitors' performance. And I will just try my best."
