Italian world champion boxers Clemente Russo and Roberto Camaarelle on Sunday vowed to win gold, and gold only, during the coming Olympics.
"My goal is of course to win a gold medal here," said Russo, world champion of the 2007 Chicago World Amateur Boxing Championships, "I'm very hopeful of a gold medal, because I won the world championship last year."
He said he is not afraid of his Chinese rival Nijiati Yushan, the 91kg boxer, since he has beaten Yushan twice since last year. "But Yushan is a very good boxer," he told Xinhua.
Ambitious about his team's goal, Russo hoped it can grab three boxing boxing golds during the Olympics. "One for me, one for Cameralle, one for Valentino," he said.
Roberto Cammarelle is Italy's +91 kg boxer, he also won the 2007 World Championships. Domenico Valentino, the Italian 60kg boxer, seized a silver medal in the World Championships in 2007.
"Maybe one more silver and two more bronzes!" said the "greedy" Italian, laughing.
"But in Olympics, the ring speaks for the winning," he added.
He commented that Russian boxers are stronger, and Cubans are more tactical. He also thought the Ukrainians are good.
Another world champion, Cammarelle, also vowed to win in the Olympics. "I want to win, only gold," the solid-built guy told Xinhua. He said his Chinese opponent, +91kg boxer Zhang Zhilei is very good. "I want to meet him in the final," he said.
Both champions spoke rosy words about the training facilities in Ditan Gymnasium, the good transportation, and the excellent service and food at the Olympic village.
