Michael Phelps of the United States won the gold medal of men's 200m freestyle with new world record time of 1:42.96 on Tuesday.

It was Phelps' third gold medal at the Games. The silver medal was taken by Park Taehwan of South Korea at 1:44.85, the bronze medal went to Peter Vanderkaay of the United States at 1:45.14.
