Cuba's Andris Laffita Hernandez defeated Georgy Balakshin of Russia 9-8 in the semifinal of the Olympic Boxing competition's flyweight class. Hernandez won the bout with a left-hand punch in the dying stages of the fourth round.

In the other semifinal, Jongjohor had an easy victory over Vincenzo Picardi, defeating the Italian boxer 7-1.
