Olympic host cities vow to protect consumers' rights

The seven host cities of the 2008 Olympic events in China pledged Thursday in Beijing to open "green channels" for consumer complaints during the Games.

The consumer organizations in Beijing, Tianjian, Shanghai, Shenyang, Qingdao, Qinhuangdao and Hong Kong jointly declared that they would establish a coordination mechanism for dealing with consumers disputes in a bid to provide better environment for the Olympics.

They made the declaration at an event held in Beijing with the theme of "2008, Our Consumption and Responsibility."

The coordination mechanism will allow the consumer organizations in the seven cities to exchange information, share responses and reconcile disputes that happen in different places.

They plan to set up offices near the Olympic venues, in the major shopping and catering areas and tourist attractions to deal with consumer complaints.

They will also step up supervision on products and services that are related to the Olmpics.

Some enterprises, including China's leading electric appliance chain Gome and Dazhong Electrical Appliances, promised to provide consumers better service during to the Games at the event held in Beijing by the seven cities' consumer organizations, with the theme of "2008, Our Consumption and Responsibility."
