The Tianjin Binhai International Airport on Sunday started to implement special security checks to ensure air transport safety during the upcoming Beijing Olympics.

Security checking equipments against flammable and explosive substances have been installed at the entrances of the terminal.

Passengers, people who come to receive or see the passengers off as well as those who work at the airport all have to undergo security checks if they are to enter the airport.

Within the terminal, the routine baggage and security checks go on as usual.

Tianjin, an Olympic co-host city adjacent to Beijing, will host 11 group stage matches of men's and women's soccer from Aug. 6-13 and a women's soccer quarterfinal on Aug. 15.

Teams from more than 20 countries and regions set up their pre-Games training bases in the city.

The airport advised passengers to arrive at the airport earlier than usual to avoid delay in their journey.

Anyone who refused to be checked or found with explosives would face punishment according to law, it warned.
