A total of 194 students from 54 countries and regions registered
as specialized volunteers for the Beijing Olympics at a mobilization campaign
in Beijing on Friday.
The students studying at Beijing Language and Culture University
submitted their registration forms while attending a meeting at
their campus.Some of them expressed their determination to offer
excellent services and bring along their schoolmates to take part
in the services.
A group of volunteers excelling in other volunteer activities
shared their experiences with the audiences. Olympic champions Lou
Yun, gold medalist of vaulting horse at the 1984 and 1988 Olympics,
and Qian Hong, gold winner of 200m butterfly women at the 1992
Olympics also attended the meeting to boost volunteerism.
They offered autographed commemorative post covers to the
volunteers honored at recent Good Luck Beijing sport events.
The Beijing Olympic Games will need 70,000 Games-time volunteers
and the Paralympic Games another 30,000. Among them the specialized
volunteers will offer services in translation and support for VIP
escort, vehicle driving, media operations, sport organization,
medical services, sport presentations, awarding-ceremonies,
accommodation and security check-up.
