At the 2003 Trampoline World Championship, Huang Shanshan entered the final competition in third place. Unfortunately, she fell during her third jump and wound up finishing 8th overall. Despite this disappointment, she was still the first Chinese trampolinist to make a World Championship final.

The bronze medal Huang Shanshan won at the 2004 Athens Olympics was no less than gold to the Chinese people. Now they hope she wins a true gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

During the 2006 Trampoline World Cup, she won championships in two individual competitions held in Switzerland and Germany, achieving a historic breakthrough for Chinese trampolinists. A sport with great importance in the eyes of the General Administration of Sport, her breakthrough at the World Cup will increase her confidence as the Olympics approach. Her goal at the games is to at least medal, but she also wants to be in contention for gold.
