The Olympic Torch Relay trial has been run smoothly in Hong Kong Friday, Secretary for Home Affairs of the government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Tsang Tak-sing said after the trial.
"The trial run on the whole today has gone on smoothly," said Tsang, adding that the trial run has gone through the major parts of Hong Kong, including many scenic spots.
The HKSAR government will analyze the test before forming a final plan for the May 2 Hong Kong leg of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch Relay. Tsang said the smooth running of the event proves the route is feasible and can be used for the May 2 relay.
Expecting a large crowd to turn up to support the May 2 relay and cheer the torch bearers on the way, Tsang said the HKSAR government will make preparation for any situation. He encouraged the public to continue supporting the event.
He said Friday's trial caused only minor traffic congestion in some areas and thanked the public for their tolerance and cooperation.
