Scott Pips Ishii to snatch gold
Adjust font size:

In the closest race of the day, Australia's Chris Scott snatched gold by a mere margin of 0.13 seconds from his Japanese opponent Ishii Masashi in the Men's CP4 Individual Pursuit race on Sunday, September 7.

At the halfway mark of the 3km race, Scott led by 1.4 seconds and appeared as though he would take the title with a considerable lead.

But Ishii dug deep and fought back closing the distance lap by lap to close the Australian down to touching distance.

Another lap and Ishii would have taken the lead.

But Scott scorched over the line centimeters ahead to retain the title he won in Athens, leaving Ishii with the silver, his first Paralympic medal.

In the bronze event, Spain's Cesar Neira fought back after being more than a second down on opponent Jiri Bouska of Czech Republic to win convincingly by over three seconds.
