Australia's Michael Gallagher romped to an easy victory by some three seconds over his German opponent Wolfgang Sacher in the Men's LC1 Individual Pursuit, capturing his first ever Paralympic medal.
The outcome for double world record holder Gallagher was never in doubt. He led from the start, never allowing Sacher closer than half a second behind. The Australian was always aware of any looming threat and seemed capable of pressing the accelerator whenever his opponent looked to be closing the gap.
Italy's Fabio Triboli, third at the Athens 2004 Games, earned another bronze medal, convincingly beating Brazilian newcomer Soelito Ghor in the ride-off.
