Table Tennis Day 6 Preview: Team Events Commence

As the individual competitions are completed in the Table Tennis events at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, attention is now turning to the Team competitions on September 13. Fixtures in all competitions are organized on a knock-out basis with wheelchair players in Classes 1-5 and standing competitors in Classes 6-10.

Men's Team - Class 9-10

In the opening round it is the United States versus Ukraine, the Netherlands versus Denmark, and Italy versus Sweden.

In the line-up of the USA team will be Mitchell Seidenfeld who finished fourth in the Men's Individual - Class 9.

Women's Team - Class 4-5

The first round of matches will be fought out between South Africa versus Jordan, Poland versus Sweden, Republic of Korea versus Italy, Chinese Taipei versus Mexico, Serbia versus Great Britain, and Slovenia versus Hong Kong, China.

The ROK will have on their team Moon Sung-hye, the bronze medalist in the Women's Individual - Class 4 event

On the Jordanian team will be Khetam Abuawad, who finished fourth in the Women's Individual - Class 5 competition.

Serbia will be led by Borislava Peric, the No.1 seed and silver medalist in Women's Individual - Class 4.

Mateja Pintar, the Women's Individual - Class 3 gold medalist in 2004 and the bronze medalist in Beijing will head the Slovenian team.

Men's Team - Class 1-2

Six teams will compete in the quarterfinals: Cuba versus Slovakia, Austria versus Brazil, and Germany versus France.

Andreas Vevera, the gold medalist in Men's Individual Class 1 will be in action for Austria. The French Team is made up of Stephane Molliens, Vincent Boury and Jean-Francois Ducay. Molliens and Boury contested the gold medal in Men's Individual - Class 2 in Beijing, while Ducay finished in the fourth place in Men's Individual - Class 1.

Men's Team - Class 4-5

The fixtures for the first round are: Nigeria versus China, Germany versus Hong Kong, China, Slovakia versus Sweden, Italy versus Serbia, and Chinese Taipei versus Brazil.

Zhang Yan, the gold medalist in Men's Individual--Class 4 in 2004, will lead the Chinese team.

Men's Team - Class 3

The fixtures for the quarterfinals: France versus Slovenia, Lebanon versus Great Britain, Austria versus Brazil, and China versus Republic of Korea.

Feng Panfeng, gold medalist in the Men's Individual--Class 3 event will lead the Chinese team.

Jean-Philippe Robin, the silver medalist in Men's Individual--Class 1 is on duty for France, as is Stephane Merrien who was the No.1 seed.

Luiz Algacir Silva, fourth place winner in the Men's Individual--Class 3 event, is in the Brazilian line-up.
