Ukraine and Russia will play in the Football 7-a-Side gold medal match after they won their semifinal matches against Brazil and Iran on Pitch 1 of the Olympic Green Hockey Stadium on Sunday.
Ukraine was the first to book a ticket for the tournament's decider with a strong performance against Brazil (6-0), a team it defeated four years ago in the final of the Athens 2004 Paralympic Games.
With goals from Volodymyr Antonyuk, Taras Dutko, Ivan Shkvarlo, Denys Ponomaryov and Anatolii Shevchyk, Ukraine won its fourth consecutive match in the tournament and it now has scored 25 goals, while conceding only one.
Russia was too strong for Iran, its semifinal opponent. The world champions won 5-0 with goals from Andrey Kuvaev, Ivan Potekhin, Alexey Tumakov, goalkeeper Alexander Lekov (from the penalty spot) and Pavel Borisov.
The final will be a battle between the undefeated teams, while Brazil and Iran will play for the bronze medal. Both matches will take place on Tuesday, September 16.
