Before 2007, Heishan Village located at the source of Kashi River of Yulong, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is a remote mountain village where information from the outside world would only sporadically trickle in. Local villagers could have never guessed jade digging would eventually change their lives. Nowadays, the area is crawling with jade diggers. (This picture was taken in 2006.)
