Editor's note: Located in the terrace of the canyon of Meigu River in southwestern China's Sichuan Province, Atu Le'er is a remote village perched on a cliff. The village is 1,400 meters in elevation and about 800 meters above the ground. A total of 72 households reside in the remote mountainous village. Children have to climb ladders made from rattan to go to school, and young people find it difficult to get married due to the isolation from the outside world.
Villagers have to climb 17 rattan ladders to go outside, and the two 100-meter-long ladders that are nearest to the village are set almost vertically against the cliff. But most dangerous of all are the places where even rattan ladders are not available. [Photo/The Beijing News] |
