Jan. 28, 2009 is the 20th anniversary of the passing away of Bainqen Erdini Qoigyi Gyaincain, the 10th Panchen Lama. Born in 1938, the 10th Panchen Lama was a native of Xunhua County in northwestern China’s Qinghai Province, and died in 1989. He was the Vice Chairman of the 2nd CPPCC National Committee, Honorary Chairman of the Buddhist Association of China, and a religious leader of Tibetan Buddhism.
