The first Italian mobile phone tossing championship has begun at Villa Erba in Cernobbio, in the province of Como. The organisers have supplied the contestants with no less than 2,500 mobile phones of different colours, but of the same weight. The contest is obviously won by whoever throws the phone furthest, and the prizes are engaging gadgets. The idea for the championship was launched by a young Italian businessman from Como, who got a big international sponsor to chip in. This bizarre contest consists solely in throwing a mobile or smart phone as far as one can, and the pitch can be of any kind: grass, sand, asphalt or concrete, indoors or outdoors. Villa Erba is but the first round in the tournament, which will continue in other Italian towns, such as Riccione and Ostia (near Rome). [CFP] |
