Despite invitation, Amauri is barred from playing for Brazil
Adjust font size:

On the same day in which the Brazilian forward was invited to play for the Brazilian national soccer team, Amauri was on Saturday prohibited by his Italian team from participating in the friendly match against Italy on Feb. 10.

The player needed the permission of his Italian team, Juventus, due to the last minute addition of Amauri by the Brazilian national team. However, his Italian club vetoed the forward's presence.

FIFA, the world wide soccer authority, requires that any player who plays outside of his country of origin must officially be enrolled to play in any game at least fourteen days before the match.

Due to Luis Fabiano's recent knee injury, Amauri was called in to substitute the forward. However, the time constraints proved too tight and are likely to keep Amauri from fulfilling his dream of acting for a national team.

Should Amauri fail in convincing his Italian team to liberate him to play, he may have another chance in the short future. The Brazilian Confederation of Soccer announced this Saturday that they have officially scheduled a friendly match against the national team of Estonia. The game will be held in Estonia on August 12.
