Singapore unveiled the two-day islandwide torch relay plan for the first-ever Asian Youth Games on Thursday.
With the theme "Igniting Sporting Passion in Asia's Youth," the torch relay will be held from June 28 to 29. The first day of the relay, named community leg, will galvanize supporters from the community and corporate world, and the second day of the relay, named school leg, will see the flame travel to 45 schools on the island.
The torch relay will feature three routes, which will be run concurrently and cover the entire island of Singapore. More than 180 torch-bearers and over 70,000 participants from all walks of life are expected to be part of the event.
The Singapore Asian Youth Games Organizing Committee also unveiled on Thursday the official flower for the games, Dendrobium Asian Youth Games Singapore 09, a three-sepal golden hued orchid.
The first Asian Youth Games will be held in Singapore from June 29 to July 7, when athletes aged between 14 and 17 from 45 Olympic Council of Asia's members will compete in 90 events across nine sports.
