French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova suffered a Roland Garros hangover as the Russian crashed 6-0, 6-3 against Aleksandra Wozniak at the Eastbourne International on Tuesday.

Kuznetsova, the second seed, was playing her first match since winning her second Grand Slam title on the Paris clay earlier this month and struggled to find any rhythm against Canadian world number 23 Wozniak.

Jelena Jankovic's miserable season showed no signs of improving as the Serbian was beaten 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-2 by Anna Chakvetadze in the first round.

Jankovic, seeded third, began the year ranked number one in the world but has struggled for several months and her preparations for Wimbledon, which starts on Monday, are in tatters after another lackluster display.

Fourth seed Vera Zvonareva, playing her first match since April because of an ankle injury, lost 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 to former Wimbledon champion Amelie Mauresmo.

Reigning Eastbourne champion Agnieszka Radwanska easily disposed of younger sister Urszula in their first-round clash 6-1, 6-1.

Sixth seed Caroline Wozniacki eased past Alisa Kleybanova 6-3, 6-2 while former Wimbledon finalist Marion Bartoli was a 6-3, 6-1 winner against Gisela Dulko.

Other matches in the first round, Ekaterina Makarova beat Jarmila Groth 7-6 (9-7), 6-1 while fellow qualifier Vera Dushevina defeated Ai Sugiyama 6-7 (8-10) 7-5 6-4.

In the men's event at Eastbourne, top seed Igor Andreev was an early casualty, losing 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 to Canadian qualifier Frank Dancevic, who will now play Britain's James Ward.

British number three Josh Goodall's tournament ended at the second-round stage at the hands of experienced Croatian Ivan Ljubicic 6-3, 7-5.

Fifth seed Mikhail Youzhny was beaten 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 by France's Julien Benneteau but fourth seed Fabrice Santoro reached the quarter-finals with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Robby Ginepri.
