China secure women's singles title at China Open badminton

Wang Shixian eliminated Malaysia' s Wong Mew Cho, the only non-Chinese player in the top eight, to secure the women's singles title in advance for China at China Open badminton on Friday.

Wang didn't have much trouble to win the first set 21-10, but Wong speeded up her rhythm in the second set to force a 22-22 tie before Wang collected two key points into the 24-22 victory.

With Wong out, Chinese players had knocked out all the non- Chinese players to pack up the women's singles in advance.

World No. 2 Lin Dan from China got past Indonesia's Santoso Simon to reach the men's singles semifinals. His teammate Chen Jin defeat another Indonesian seed Dwi Kuncoro Sony 21-16, 15-21, 21-12 within 65 minutes.

South Korea's Park Sung Hwan and Denmark's Jan Jorgensentook took up the other two spots in the top four.

South Korean star Lee Yong Dae played two matches and won both. In the men's doubles, Lee and his teammate Jung Jae Sung stopped the last pair of China Guo Zhendong/Xu Chen from moving better than quarterfinal.

In the mixed doubles, Lee also occupied a place in the semifinal along with Lee Hyo Jung.

In the women's doubles, Malaysia's Chin Eei Hui/Wong Pei Tty progressed into the semifinals, alongside three Chinese pairs.
