Brazil's Olympic champion Cesar Cielo completed his sprint record double on Friday by setting a new world mark in the men's 50m freestyle at the Brazilian swimming championships in Sao Paulo.

The 22-year-old Cielo marked 20.91 second to better the previous world record of 20.94 achieved by France's Frederick Bousquet on April 26, 2009 in Montpellier, France.

"I really wanted to finish the year with the 50m and 100m freestyle records," said Cielo, who set the world record over 100m in 46:91 at the world championships in Rome this year.

The record caps a spectacular year for the Brazilian who won two gold medals in the 50m and 100m freestyle races at the world championships.

At the Beijing Olympics, Cielo won the 50m freestyle gold and 100m freestyle bronze.
