The Spanish Football League and The Spanish Football Federation have agreed to a new timetable that will allow for the BBVA Primera Liga to hold one game on Monday night.

The agreement which could be applied as soon as February 12 and which lasts until 2014, allows for a Spanish Second Division match to be televised at 21.00 hrs on Friday and for a Primera Liga game to be shown at 22:00 local time on Monday.

It is the first time there has been Monday night football in Spain since the 1997-98 season and the idea is to open up another slot for a televised live game.

At the moment the BBVA Primera Liga has six separate kick off times: these are 18:00, 20:00 and 22:00 on Saturday, 17:00, 19:00 and 21:00 on Sunday, with four or five games taking place at 17:00 on Sunday.

Any team playing in the Champions League will not be able to play on a Monday, but the slot does give a chance for a team playing a Europa League match on a Thursday to enjoy an extra 24 rest period before playing its next Primera Liga clash.

The agreement made no mention of bringing forward kick off times at 15:00 to tap into the Asian Market and such a move looks impossible, at least for the current season.
