Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave his mark in football history, local media reported on Thursday.

Ronaldo has probably already done that thanks to his 95 million euro transfer from Manchester United to Real Madrid last summer, but Ronaldo is looking to the future.

"When I have finished my career, I want people look at me and say I was a fantastic footballer. Nothing more. I want to be able to say I left my mark in the history of football," he said, at a sponsorship event in London, reported on by the Spanish press.

The Portuguese international has scored 18 goals so far this season, but says he is not satisfied with that number.

"Maybe I have been injured too often this season. At the moment I want to take full advantage of the time that I am out on the pitch so I can improve my contribution to the team," he said.

Ronaldo also discussed the differences between playing in Spain and in the English Premier League.

"La Liga in Spain is quite different. The Premier League is faster and more physical, while in Spain the football is more technical," he commented, before adding that he has not lost touch with his former club.

"I have not ended my relationship with hardly any of the Manchester United players because I have come to Real Madrid. I still speak a lot with Nani, Anderson and Rio Ferdinand," said the striker.
