German Sebastian Vettel and his Red Bull team boss Christian Horner were spitting with frustration on Sunday after his car lost power to leave him fourth, instead of winner of, the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Team boss Horner said they had the race under control and were on course for a comfortable victory.

"It is very annoying," Horner said. "We really had the race comfortably under control. It was frustrating to either have an exhaust failure or electrical issue that caused the power loss.

"Sebastian drove fantastically well to maintain fourth place which is still valuable points, but still desperately frustrating when the race had gone well, the strategy had gone well, we had covered the Ferraris and he was nursing his tires."

Vettel, who started from pole and led for 34 laps, said: "It's a pity but what can you do? All in all, it was a positive except the failure this weekend.

"Under any conditions from Saturday morning onwards we were the quickest. I think we had very good control of the race, we had a very good strategy, I knew how my tires were."
