Sevilla coach Manolo Jimenez accepted all of the blame after his side crashed out of the last 16 of the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Sevilla was favorite to progress into the quarterfinals of the competition after a 1-1 draw away to CSKA Moscow three weeks ago.

However, a poor performance in the Sanchez Pizjuan saw Jimenez's team lose 2-1 to a superior Russian side and Sevilla missed the chance to reach the quarterfinals for the first time in the club's history.

"The result is dreadful and all we can do is apologise to our fans. There were a lot of hopes put on us qualifying, but the only person responsible for the result is me," said Jimenez in Tuesday's edition of sports paper Diario AS.

"I will repeat that as many times as necessary," he insisted, before explaining the result.

"We had a clear chance to open the scoring when it was 0-0. It was the sort of chance we usually take, but the keeper made a save."

"CSKA is a good team and they were well organized. They knew how to wait for their opportunity, even though they needed to score for a long time. After they took the lead we lost clarity, but football is like that," he lamented.
