The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has passed the proposal on slashing the number of participants from three to two in individual events in the Olympic Games, Cai Zhenhua, chairman of the Chinese Table Tennis Association (CTTA) told a news conference in Moscow on Friday.

Cai, also a Chinese vice sports minister, said the ITTF general meeting has made final decision on the change of rules, and began to discuss the details of the implementation of the reform.

"We (CTTA) accepted the proposal, but it does not mean we support it," Cai noted.

He said that the reform may deprive some top players of the precious chance to play in Olympics, which may cast negative influence on the development of the sports.

Asked about the deadline of CTTA toward the various reforms introduced by ITTF, the head of CTTA said there is no deadline for China.

"We support any reform that is good for the game of table tennis. It is always China who implements the reforms of rules most firmly. But meanwhile, we hope to see a comparatively stable and quiet period, which is also necessary for the sports' development," he added.
