Leyton Hewitt stunned five-time champion Roger Federer 3-6 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 for the ATP Hall grass court title on Sunday in Germany.
It was the first win for eighteen-seeded Leyton Hewitt over former world number one in sixteen matches and seven years. He earned the last victory over Federer in 2003.
Top-seeded Roger Federer suffered his first loss after 29 matches since 2002 in Halle. The Swiss dominated the ATP Hall grass court tournament with five titles in row.
The 29-year-old Hewitt served the match out in 2 hours and 21 minutes, when his forehand bounced off the net unreachable for the Swiss, to seals his 28th career title and 137,500 dollars.
Leyton Hewitt earned his last title in April 2009 in Houston.
Federer and Hewitt will participate in Wimbledon from June 21.
