Guardiola to pen new deal in Barcelona

Barcelona has confirmed that coach Pep Guardiola will sign his new contract with the club this Wednesday.
The Spokesman for the Board of Directors, Toni Freixa confirmed that Guardiola will sign an extention to his contract. In this way the 39-year-old will fulfil the promise he made in January, when he committed his future to the club for at least another year.
Since then Joan Laporta has left the Presidency of the club to be replaced by Sandro Rosell, who was elected new President in June, but Guardiola will remain true to his word.
Freixa would not give away details of the new contract, but did say that it was, "very important, we have looked over all of the conditions."
A former Barcelona player, Guardiola returned to the club in 2007 to coach the B-team. After leading them to promotion to Spain's third tier in his first season, he was made first team coach after the departure of Frank Rijkaard.
His first season in charge saw Barcelona win the Primera Liga and the Copa del Rey as well as the Champions League. Last season he followed those successes up by taking Barcelona to the Spanish and European Supercups and by retaining the Primera Liga title.
However, the crowning moment came last December when Barcelona won the World Club Championship, meaning Guardiola had led them to every title it is possible to win in a year.
Guardiola has a reputation for bringing through new talent and it is no coincidence that eight players in Spain's World Cup winning squad are products of the Barcelona youth system.
