Cuban Olympic champion in 110m hurdles Dayron Robles decided to end his season this year because he is not in his "top form," his coach Santiago Antunez said on Monday.

"Dayron is not in a top form. He is training well, but he still needs to work more, and to polish more details," the coach added.

"He will be present in a competition when he is in the best position to do so," Antunez said.

Robles, 23, refused to participate in the tournaments in Rieti (Italy) on Sunday and Zagreb (Croatia) next Wednesday.

According to Antunez, he will not attend the Intercontinental Cup to be hosted in the Croatian city of Split on September 4 and 5.

World record holder for the 110 meter hurdles in 12.87 seconds, Robles complained of discomfort in his legs on July 7 in Lausanne, Switzerland, after getting his fastest time of the season, 13.01 seconds, and since then has not returned to compete.

After returning to Cuba in July, Robles said he was not injured and only had discomfort due to his flat feet, he also announced in August he would return to the competition at the Diamond League.

"He has given up all his pending commitments during the current athletic season, he will return to compete after recovering his top form," Antunez added.
