Second seed Kim Clijsters of Belgium romped past seventh seed Vera Zvonareva in 6-2, 6-1, grabbing her third US Open title.

It was Clijsters' 21th straight win at the Flushing Meadows and also her second straight title here.

Clijsters broke Zvonareva twice in each set to wrap up the final victory in just one hour.

Zvonareva burst into tears after the match, quite likely for her numerous errors with 24 unforced, nine more than the champion, and 17 forced.

Clijsters outperformed her opponent mainly in the baseline stroke, with 40 baseline points won, 23 more than the Russian, whose four double faults also attributed to her quick defeat.

The athletic Clijsters broke first-time US Open finalist Zvonareva in high effiency as her two and half year old daughter, Jada, munched on a watermelon slice in the players' box. Clijsters converted four of five break points available. She continued to pin the emotional Russian at the baseline and coaxed her into multiple errors, running off seven straight games at one point.

The Belgian mother is the third woman to win at least two majors after giving birth.

Clijsters won in 2005, didn't play from 2006-2008 for starting a family, and then won again last year.

The win makes her the first woman to win two consecutive U.S. Open titles since Venus Williams, whom Clijsters beat Friday night to advance to the final round.

Clijsters came into the match with 20 consecutive wins after defeating Williams, who bagged back-to-back titles in 2000 and 2001.

Zvonareva upset top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki on Friday to face off with Clijsters, whom she had beaten twice previously.
