Real Madrid celebrated their 2,500th game in the Primera Liga with a 3-0 win at home to Espanyol in the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on Tuesday night.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring with a penalty midway through the first half after referee Clos Gomez harshly adjudged that Luis Garcia had handled the ball in the defensive wall after a free kick in Madrid's favor.

Jose Mourinho's side was not playing well and was reduced to 10 men in the second half after Pepe was shown a red card after picking up two bookings for rash challenges.

However the referee soon leveled things out showing Espanyol defender Galan a rigorous red card for a challenge on Ronaldo, Maybe Clos Gomez had been influenced by the challenge that injured Barcelona's Leo Messi at the weekend.

Higuain doubled Real Madrid's lead in the closing moments and Benzema made it 3-0 with two minutes remaining, just before the referee sent Forlin off to leave the visitors with just 9 players on the pitch.

Athletic Bilbao was also playing its 2,500 match in the Primera Liga and the Basque club celebrated in style with a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Mallorca.

The Basque club was in control of all of the game, but needed a stroke of fortune to open the score when David Lopez's cross evaded everyone and ended up in the back of the net.

Mikel San Jose doubled the lead from the penalty spot midway through the second half and youngster Inigo Perez scored the third in injury time

Finally Osasuna scored their first goals of the season as they beat local rivals Real Sociedad in the el Sadar Stadium.

Raul Tamudo opened the scoring for the visitors with his third game of the season, but Osasuna had turned the result around before halftime with goals from Walter Pandiani (Osasuna's first goal of the season) and Javier Camunas.

Carlos Aranda scored a third with 15 minutes later and Osasuna coach Jose Antonio Camacho, who was being questioned after his side's poor start to the season, can breathe easier.
