Real Madrid beat AC Milan 2-0 in the clash of European heavyweights on Tuesday to stay top of their Champions League group, while other powerhouses Chelsea, Arsenal and Bayern Munich all scored wins.
Real Madrid proved to be unstoppable under Jose Murinho's guidance as they overpowered AC Milan throughout the match, blitzing Milan's goal with 22 shots. Their talismatic figure Cristiano Ronaldo scored one goal and set up the other.
Ronaldo opened with a 13th-minute free kick that flew through a gap in the defensive wall left when Zlatan Ibrahimovic jumped out of position.
A minute later and with the cheers barely subsided, the Portugal forward darted into the area before feeding the ball back to Mesut Oezil, whose shot came off Daniele Bonera's head to loop over goalkeeper Marco Amelia.
Nine-time champion Madrid has nine points after a third straight win. Milan has four.
Chelsea returned to the scene of their 2008 final defeat by Manchester United, but thanks to goals from Yuri Zhirkov and Nicolas Anelka, they left the Luzhniki Stadium with all three points courtesy of a 2-0 success to continue their 100 per cent record.
Arsenal can boast an equally perfect record with Shakhtar Donetsk the latest to be undone by Arsene Wenger's side in continental competition this campaign, with the first goal in their 5-1 defeat an absolute gift.
