FC Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola insisted that he was not going to judge the performance of striker David Villa after every game.

Villa was Barcelona's star signing of the summer costing around 50 million euros from Valencia, but so far the striker has not found his best form.

He has scored just two goals in eight Primera Liga appearances and his run of bad luck has continued this week, with two shots against the woodwork in his side's Champions League game against Copenhagen on Wednesday and finding the woodwork again during Barca's 2-0 win in Zaragoza on Saturday.

"It's more of the same, we try not to judge him because he has or hasn't scored a goal," defended Guardiola in Sunday's edition of Diario AS.

"He works hard and he creates football for us from inside of the pitch, the goals will go in sooner or later. We came to win the game, not for Villa to score goals and I can't judge him every week," said the Barca coach.

Guardiola looked back at the game which his side controlled from start to finish, before winning thanks to two goals from Leo Messi against a Zaragoza that limited itself to trying to stop Barca playing.

"We tried to play as we always do, but they started with five defenders and our aim was to control the midfield. A game is never fully under control, but we are in good form and the players are showing they are in good shape," commented the Barca coach.
