AS Roma pulled off an brilliant victory in the European Champions League as they battled back from 2-0 down to beat already-qualified Bayern Munich 3-2 on Tuesday.

Francesco Totti came off the bench to score the winner for Roma from the point, and he described the game as "our season in a microcosm."

"We didn't start the way we wanted to, as it was incredibly difficult when 2-0 down faced with a great squad that pushed for the win," said the captain.

"With determination and the hunger of a great team, we turned the game around.

"It's our season in a microcosm, really, and we cannot hide the face we are a top side. We must be competitive in Europe as well as in Serie A.

In-form Bayern striker Mario Gomez scored twice to put the Germans in control at halftime in the Group E clash before Claudio Ranieri's Roma side netted early in the second half through Marco Borriello.

Daniele de Rossi grabbed the equaliser from close range after 81 minutes and substitute Francesco Totti then made it 3-2 to the home side when he converted an 84th minute penalty after Borriello had been felled by goalkeeper Thomas Kraft.

Roma travel to CFR Cluj in the final round of group matches on Dec. 8 in a bid to make February's first knockout round.
