Mexico pulled off a 2-0 upset win over 1998 winners France to join Uruguay at the top of Group A in the ongoing World Cup on Thursday.
The day also witnessed Gonzalo Higuain score the 2010 World Cup's first hat-trick that put Argentina 4-1 over South Korea. Greece downed 10-man 2-1 in a hot-tempered clash.
The first heartbroken moment for French supporters came in the 64th minute when striker Javier Hernandez received a long pass from midfield and beat French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris one-on-one.
The Mexicans extended their lead in the 79th minute with a penalty by Cuauhtemoc Blanco after Pablo Barrera was felled by French defender Eric Abidal inside the box. Blanco fired the penalty kick low into the left corner to kill the game.
Diego Maradona's side now top Group B with six points from two matches while South Korea and Greece each gathered three points with winless Nigeria in bottom.
