Uruguay star Diego Forlan voiced his disappointment at losing the bronze medal of the 2010 World Cup following a 3-2 defeat to Germany on Saturday.

Thomas Mueller found the net first for Germany in the 19th minute before Edinson Cavani put in the equaliser nine minutes later, and Uruguay even went ahead with Forlan himself scoring a volley in the 51st minute.

But the Germans quickly hit back with Marcell Jansen in the 56th minute and snatched the victory with a looping header from Sami Khedira in the 82nd minute.

"We did a little," the Atletico Madrid striker is quoted as having said by La Observa. "We were there to win third place. We made a couple of mistakes and the game was done for."

"We've enjoyed the World Cup," he added.

Uruguay were not expected to go deep into the competition, which led to Forlan proclaiming that his side's achievement over the past month has been "spectacular".

Uruguay's fourth placed finish eclipses any effort made at the Finals by a Celeste side since 1970 and matches their best ever position when competing outside of the American landmass.

Meanwhile, Furlan also became the joint top scorer with five goals at the tournament.
