It will not be an easy journey for the Chinese speed skaters bound for the Asian Winter Games.

These Winter Asiad exclude China's strong events of 100 meters and 1000 meters races as top Chinese skaters merely take the Asiad as an early test for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games.

"I have not taken much training since last summer and I will focus on recovering my form this year," said Wang Beixing, Vancouver Winter Olympics bronze medalist in 500m.

"The opponents may be stronger than us but we are progressing all the time. We have set our sights on next Winter Olympics."

The Chinese have never won an Olympic gold of speed skating and the best results were two silvers in 1992, won by Ye Qiaobo.

"China needs to improve teaching methods and the facilities of speed skating," said Chinese skating coach Jiao Yunlong.
