Frenchman Philippe Troussier was appointed to coach Chinese football club team Shenzhen Ruby, who appeared with two assistants at the club's press conference on Tuesday in China's south city of Shenzhen.
Troussier signed a 5-year contract of 3 years fixed and 2 years optional with the Chinese super league club.
Troussier made his debut in a French drama like and Chinese traditional style. He was given a horizontal scroll, saying "Let the ball fly" in Chinese, but obviously, the 55-year old did not know the Chinese characters as he held the horizontal scroll vertically.
Though the Frenchman appeared humorously, but when it comes to the job, Troussier turns to sturdy and ambitious.
"I am embracing the new challenge and I am confident at the team."
Troussier reveals his ambition in the following years, saying "I hope we could be the top six in this season, top three the next. In 2013, we will be super league champions."
Shenzhen Ruby placed 12th in last season's Chinese super league, only two points more than two delegated teams.
Troussier, known as the "White Witch Doctor", headed several national teams with South Africa, Nigeria and Japan. He guided the Japanese to make the round of 16 at the 2002 World Cup.
