German Bundesliga team Schalke stunned Spanish first division club Valencia 3-1 with a comeback owing to two goals by striker Jefferson Farfan on Wednesday.

Struggling Schalke had to run after an early deficit as Valencia defender Ricardo Costa nodded home the lead at the 17th minute after a cross from the left wing.

Schalke kept it bowling and was rewarded with a terrific equalizer by striker Jefferson Farfan who curled a dead ball home from 18 meters into top right to shock Valencia five minutes before break.

Seven minutes into second half Schalke striker Mario Gavranovic poked home a fumble thanks to both posts, which deflected the ball behind the line.

Valencia had to score only one goal to eliminate Schalke from last sixteen on aggregate, but it was Schalke that sealed the match after a turnover thanks to striker Jefferson Farfan who over lobbed Valencia goalie Vicente Guaita at the fourth minute of injury time to mark the 3-1 winner.

"We failed to play aggressively but after the deficit we had nothing to lose but for all that we turned up to win this match," Schalke head coach Felix Magath said.

It is the second time for Schalke to reach UEFA Champions League quarterfinals and the seventh win at Champions League, which is a new club record.
