FC Barcelona confirmed on Tuesday evening that the club's Brazilian international defender Dani Alves has agreed a new contract with the club.
The FC Barcelona website says that Alves will sign his new contract on Wednesday and will remain with the club until 2015.
After signing he will hold a press conference to discuss the details of his new deal.
His previous contract was due to expire at the end of June 2012 and that led to speculation that Alves could leave Barcelona at the end of the current season with Manchester City a possible destination.
Alves joined Barcelona from Sevilla in the summer of 2008 in a deal worth around 40 million US dollars. He was a key part of the side that won the La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League that season and which went on to retain the La Liga as well as winning the Spanish and European Supercups last season.
Barcelona President, Sandro Rossell used his official Twitter account to comment on Alves' new contract saying it was "very good news for Barca."
