Diego Maradona on Thursday presented a lawsuit in the San Juan province of the west-central Cuyo region over the use of his image in a local election campaign.
The lawsuit was presented by Maradona's legal representative, Andrea Alicante, after Maradona's picture appeared in propaganda posters for the re-election campaign of San Juan's governor Jose Luis Gioja
"The ball is not smudged, nor is the constitution. No to the amendment. For more democracy and liberty, vote for you, vote no," read the posters which were placed in some streets of San Juan as part of a local election campaign supporting Gioja.
"If I had given my word then there is no problem, but this kind of thing I am not going to allow anyone, neither in favor nor against the governor," Maradona told the local paper the Diario de Cuyo.
"I can assure you I am going to the end with this because they cannot use me for something I don't even know about," said the now retired 50-year-old Maradona, who was captain of the Argentine team that won the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.
