Brazilian forward Cleo scored twice to add a 2-1 victory for Guangzhou Evergrande's over Liaoning in the 2011 Chinese Super League(CSL) on Friday.
The newly promoted have enjoyed a two-game winning streak and remained unbeaten for five games to find themselves up to second in the top division table.
Guangzhou's 3.2-million-euro recruit broke the deadlock in 31st minute into the first half by a quick reaction volley, only to see Liaoning's King finished a more stunning volley to make the equalizer ten minutes later.
The second half saw the domination of the home team. 16 minutes had passed before the referee pointed to the spot after Muriqui's crossing forced Liaoning's defender to made a hand interception, only to see the slow-motion image revealed later that the foul was committed outside the box. Cleo netted the penalty to celebrate his fifth goal this season, making him top the scorers' list.
The remaining half hour was in complete control for Guangzhou, who missed two or three chances to increase the gap but finally defended their one goal lead.
"we have been making constant progress in team work, despite we need to improve ourselves in some details especially in defense." Said Guangzhou's coach Lee Jang-Soo.
