The controversial Bahrain Grand Prix was officially scrapped from the 2011 calendar by Formula One's governing body, FIA, on Tuesday.

The race, originally scheduled for March 13 but postponed after civil unrest in the Gulf kingdom left 30 dead, had been rescheduled into the calendar for Oct 3.

But the teams railed against that decision, saying they were not prepared to take part, forcing a climbdown from F1 authorities with the canceling of the rearranged race.

Approving the calendar for the remainder of the year on Tuesday, the FIA's World Motor Sport Council unanimously voted in favor of staging, as originally planned, the inaugural Indian Grand Prix on Oct 3, with Bahrain scrapped for this year.
