Peng, the 20th seed, is the only Chinese player still in the draw in the women's singles, as French Open champion Li Na and former Wimbledon semifinalist Zheng Jie were both ousted from the second round.

The 25-year-old Peng will meet three-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova in the next round as the Russian star knocked out Klara Zakopalova from the Czech Republic 6-2, 6-3.
