The United States eased past France 3-1 in the semifinals of the FIFA Women World Cup in front of 25,676 spectators at Borussia Park on Wednesday.

The duel started evenly balanced as both teams tried to implement their strategy. The United States staged aggressive soccer with high pace whereas France showed good passing.

Nine minutes into the match, the United States opened the scoring through striker Lauren Cheney who finished a counter attack.

After the break, France stunned the opponents with the deserved equalizer 10 minutes into second half through defender Sonnia Bompastor who netted a cross attempt from the right wing.

"Les Bleus" pressed now frantically for the lead but USA goalkeeper Solo Hope was able to save the attempts. With 79 minutes into the match France was unable to hold their pace so that USA striker Abby Wambach headed home at the second post to make it 2-1 on the scoreboards.

It took only three minutes until striker Alex Morgan sealed the deal when she finished a counter with a lob.
